Platinum Rings & Wedding Bands I sell only 950 Platinum rings. The reason is 950 Platinum is the Standard. 950 means the metal is 95% pure platinum with 5 % alloy. The best alloy to use for wedding bands is Ruthenium. It is used to make the platinum hard enough for jewelry use. Using pure platinum even in a heavy wedding band would bend within a few weeks.

Comparison Shopping: We all know the reason you are shopping on the internet and not your local jewelry store is to save money and to get a better selection. Most local stores sell very light weight rings trying to make the highest profit then can to pay for costly locations and employees. A few, usually independent local stores will sell a better , heavier weight ring but again they need to cover that overhead. I gave up the expensive location many years ago. I am in an old area of town where rent is cheap and where few retail client would venture. My building is full of artist, photographers and antique collectors who "retail" there products at fancy stores on the high rent side of town. Having been in the jewelry business for over 25 years I know how hard it is to know what you are really looking at. Sure all the photos look about the same but the real value is in the details. To know the value of the ring you must first know how it was made. My rings are made from extruded tube and not cast. This means they are cut from solid platinum tube and milled to the final shape and polished. Next you need to know the alloy used. I only sell 950Platinum with Ruthenium as mentioned earlier. The ring width and thickness are two key factors you must know. A 6mm wide band could be 1.2mm thick to 2.6mm thick. Never buy unless you have the thickness listed for the size and width of ring in question. Last and most important is the weight. If you want to compare apples to apples you need the weight for the size, width and thickness you are buying. A general weight for size 8-12 don't cut it. My weights are listed as approx but are within a fraction of the finished weight for every ring I sell. It is listed on the price list next to the ring finger size. With this information you can be an informed shopper. Now you know the real value of the Platinum Rings you are looking at.
